Bill Clinton in his inaugural address on 20th January 1993 said
“There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be fixed with what
is right with America.” Today, just think it is our president speaking at his
inauguration, and saying:
There is nothing wrong with Nigeria that cannot fixed by what right with Nigeria.
Despite the deaths, hunger, oppression, heartache and pains, there are Nigerians who are committed to the total well being, safety, protection of properties and fundamental human rights of all Nigerians. I am one of them, and I am glad I am the least of them.
Win, lose or draw in today’s election, I will continue to seek the goodwill of all Nigerians. I will co-operate with whoever wins and be the greatest cheerleader for them to succeed even though I might have opposed them during the campaign.
My advice now is that we conduct the elections peacefully and accept the results in good faith. If there are confirmed irregularities, let them be settled through due process of the law. No violence, let us remember we are building one nation through service. And the greatest service you can render to Nigeria right now is love Nigeria, and all it’s citizens, and as you do that, you are putting into practice the concluding part of our national anthem:
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom
Peace and unity
And with that, I commend Nigeria to the love of God, and to the brotherhood of one Nigeria.
God bless you all, and may God bless the FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!
