All is now set for Lagelu Grammar School Ibadan to hold its 59 Founder’s Day event on Friday and old students like the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, a Senator representing Oyo South senatorial district, Adesoji Akanbi, the Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Bayo Adelabu, Secretary to Oyo State Government, Alhaji Olalekan Alli, his predecessor, Alhaji Akin Olajide and the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Toye Arulogun are ready to host other illustrious old boys of the great institution.
The school which prides itself and students as ‘Semper Optimum’, was founded in January 27th, 1958 and has produced high fliers in the society who are doing the school proud in their various areas of human endeavours across the globe.
A release signed by the P.R.O. of the Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys Association, Mr. Wale Adeoye stated that the event will hold on Friday, by 10 a.m inside the School Hall.
The programme which is being packaged by the leadership of the association in conjunction with the school’s management is to feature an anniversary lecture by an eminent old boy and the dedication of set projects viz the re-electrification project of the school by the 1966 set, the supply of 30 sets of chairs and tables by the 1977 set and the donation of 10 marker boards and some tempo markers by the 1997 set. The three sets are marking their 50th, 40th and 20th anniversaries respectively. Cutting of anniversary cake and the grand finalé of students debate which is being sponsored by the 1994 Set will then follow.
The 1994 Set led by a Boardroom guru, Alhaji Ademola Lawal had last week Friday donated school uniforms to 100 indigent students in an event described by the National President, Bashorun Harry Ladapo as remarkably unprecedented in the annals of the history of the school. The same 1994 set will on Friday, February 10 organise career talk and mentoring lectures for students in SSS3 and JSS3 to guide them on prospects ahead as they select course of studies in their educational career.
Dr. Ladapo whose tenure has been eventful with a number or projects and welfare packages for students, old-boys and ex-principal alike, tasked well spirited and highly influential old boys to support the efforts of rebuilding Lagelu Grammar School to be a primus inter pares in the comity of other schools in the state and Nigeria as a whole.
In his brief opening remarks, the 1994 Set Chairman, Alh. Ademola Lawal stated that “we have come as a set to give back to our great school. We have come to identify with our indigent students. We are here to stabilize them emotionally and psychologically”.
The Principal, Mr. Tope Onipede also expressed the school’s management and students appreciation to the Chairman and all distinguished members of the 1994 Set.
